Top 10 ways to make your WFH awesome !

This COVID has made one terminology very famous amongst companies around the globe, which we had heard of in the past but never really quite implemented it, which is “Work From Home, WFH”. Bound by the limitations, employees are forced to work from their respective homes during this unknown period. Most of them would have enjoyed the initial days of it as it was a new phase at the start and companies had also limited exposure to this, but things became complex when WFH got extended beyond a month and two. Companies faced problems in monitoring their workforce and workforce felt strapped in this new work setup. This was bound to happen as it was something which was happening for the first time to everyone for such a long span of time.

So I have tried to come up with 10 ways by which you can make your Work From Home journey more efficient, more fruitful and more stress-free for both you and your employer!

1.Start your day Early

Now this one is applicable even if WFH is over. But its always better to wake up early and welcome your day with an open arm. It will be the first accomplishment of your day and it should help in lifting your spirit as you started your day on a brighter note. Second, you should spare time for a quick and simple set of exercises. WFH anyway will make you lazy in the long run if you don’t make a habit of regular exercise. 2.Making a Planner of the day

It is a very important task. Please jot down all the tasks that you are supposed to complete on that day and then give them sequence according to their priority and then strike off the task after you have finished it. If you are not doing this, please start doing it regularly and it will surely give you results. It will also stop you from doing unproductive things for long as you know that you have a set of tasks still pending to be finished off before the day ends.

3.Take regular breaks

You would be doing most of your work by sitting on a chair in front of your desk, calling your customers and fellow employees. So it is suggested that you should take 2 minutes to break in between your work and do small stretching also if possible. Don’t forget to keep hydrating yourselves at a regular interval. You should keep a check on your posture when you are doing a desk job for a longer period, very important.

4.Be compatible with virtual meeting tools

This is a key tool for all of us right now and I am sure many would have become pro at this now. Gone are the days when we were meeting our colleagues fortnightly or monthly. Now is the time to learn and adapt to virtual meeting tools. All the companies have got hands-on experience on these various tools now which has proved to be a cost-effective and efficient tool to be in touch with their employees who are working remotely. A lot of other training and events have started happening over these platforms and trainers have started minting money in this crisis period! So you must be proficient in using these applications and make the most of it.

5.Sharpen the saw

Time is money and it is known by all. This pandemic has come as a blessing in disguise for us if we try to utilize the extra time that we are saving today which we spent in traveling earlier. You can do so many extra things now which you always wanted to do as a hobby or which can help you in your current job. You can learn cooking, you can join an excel workshop, effective communication workshop, stock market webinar, join an online music course, graphics designing a workshop, and a lot more. The list is big so should your zeal to learn new things also. You will never get this amount of time and it is better that we realize this soon so Sharpen your saw!

6.Be productive

Making a list of tasks and completing them on time are totally different things and we must realize this! So it is important to keep track on the watch during your work hours and ensure that you are at the desired pace. We must try to be productive in our work and the saved hours can be utilized in extra work for you and remember time is money? It is challenging for organizations to keep a watch on their employees in the current set up of work so you must exhibit honesty in your work because your boss is not watching you, but your family is!

7.Be empathetic

People managers will experience a new feeling leading their team in such circumstances. But they must be empathetic towards their subordinates. Same way subordinates are also supposed to be empathetic towards their managers for they are running a bigger show. You may come across some people who you feel are hiding behind the WFH guidelines to dilute their non-performance. It takes patience & a big heart to deal with such a situation. You can always put yourself in their shoes and map the situation according to their existing skills and help them when required.

8.Make day end summary

After you are off for the day, please sit back and try to recall the summary of the tasks that you did today. It will help you analyze the productivity of your day. It might happen that at the end of the day, you are feeling exhausted and when you made the summary of today’s work, you might find that you had wasted that day doing nothing productive! It will help you to focus on things that matter!

9.Embrace this new normal

The life that we are living now is New Normal. So rather than cribbing about it, let’s just accept. Accept to not meet your friends regularly, accept to wear masks in public places, accept to stop junk food, accept to reduce outings, accept to accept things which you don’t have any control of. Go for a grocery shopping for your family, help your family in household chores, lend a service of hair cut to your near ones, and if available, get one as well!
